Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche are a National Hockey League team located in Denver, Colorado where they play as members of the Central Division in the Western Conference. The Avalanche play their home games at Pepsi Center in downtown Denver.

 

The franchise was founded in 1972 as the Quebec Nordiques of the World Hockey Association and joined the NHL in 1979 after the NHL-WHA merger. After the 1994-95 season, the team relocated to Denver to become the Avalanche.

 

The Avalanche had immediate success in Denver, winning the Stanley Cup in their first season in Colorado. The team's success continued, winning 9 total division titles and a second Stanley Cup championship in the 2000-01 season.
