Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars are a National Hockey League team located in Dallas, Texas. The franchise was founded in 1967 as an expansion team, the Minnesota North Stars. Due to financial troubles, the North Stars merged with the Cleveland Barons after the 1977-78 season, maintaining the North Stars name.
In 1991, the NHL added the San Jose Sharks. Before the expansion draft, the Sharks were allowed to select 16 players from the North Stars, effectively reversing the original merger with the Barons, and both the Sharks and North Stars were allowed to select players in the expansion draft.
The franchise finally relocated to Dallas to become the Stars prior to the 1992-93 season. The Dallas Stars played in Reunion Arena until 2001 when the team moved to the American Airlines Center.
The Stars has won 8 division titles since the team relocated to Dallas, along with two Western Conference championships and one Stanley Cup championship in the 1998-99 season.
