Montreal Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens are a National Hockey League team located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference and play their home games are Centre Bell. The franchise's official name is le Club de hockey Canadien with the team's nickname, “the Habs,” originating from the term “Habitants” for what French settlers of Canada who farmed the land called themselves.
The franchise was founded in 1909 and is one of the oldest sports franchises in North America. The Canadiens are the longest continuously operating professional hockey organization in the world and are the only team to predate the founding of the NHL.
The Montreal Canadiens are the most successful franchise in the NHL, winning 24 Stanley Cups, with 22 of those coming after 27 when the Stanley Cup was played for exclusively by NHL teams. The Canadiens have not won the Stanley Cup since the 1992-93 season, making this the longest championship drought in franchise history.
