New York Islanders
The New York Islanders are a National Hockey League team located in the borough of Brooklyn in New York City, New York. The franchise was founded in 1972 and played at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York on Long Island before moving to their new home, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York at the start of the 2015-16 season. The Islanders are members of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference.
The Islanders saw almost immediate success, reaching the playoffs in their third season that began a streak of 14 consecutive playoff appearances. The franchise has 4 Stanley Cup championships, all of which came in consecutive seasons during the dynasty from the 1979-80 season through the 1982-83 season. The Islanders set a record by winning 19 consecutive playoff series during from 1980 to 1984, a mark unmatched in other other professional sport.
Following the dynasty and playoff appearance streak, there has been little success. The team went 22 straight seasons without winning a playoff series until the 2015-16 season.
