Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals are a National Hockey League team located in Washington, D.C. The Capitals are members of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. The franchise was founded in 1974 as an expansion team, along with the Kansas City Scouts.
The Washington Capitals began playing at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland until moving to the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. In 1997. The Capitals' first season in 1974-75 holds the record for being the worst season in NHL history, winning only 8 games and earning only 21 points the entire season.
Washington has not had much success overall despite winning 9 division titles. The team has only made the Stanley Cup finals once, in the 1997-98 season where they lost to the defending champion Detroit Red Wings.
