Venue History
Chase Field is located in downtown Phoenix, Arizona and is the home of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks. The stadium opened in 1998 as the Diamondbacks began their first season as an expansion team in MLB. Originally called Bank One Ballpark, which fans nicknamed “The BoB,” Chase Field was the first stadium in the United States built with a retractable roof over a natural grass playing field.
As Phoenix is the hottest major city in North America, with game-time tempuratures over 100* F, the roof and a massive cooling system was a necessity for fans to be able to enjoy the games. One of the most unique features of the ballpark is the swimming pool located behind the right-center field wall, which is part of a party suit that can be rented for games.
