Venue History
Citi Field is the home to Major League Baseball's New York Mets. Opened in 2009, the ballpark is located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, in the borough of Queens, New York. The exterior design of the stadium was made to resemble Ebbets Field, which was home to the Brooklyn Dodgers. Other parts of the ballpark were influenced by the Polo Grounds, which was the Mets first home, as well as PNC Field and Coors Field, among others.
One characteristic brought over from Shea Stadium, the Mets previous long-time home, were the orange foul poles; the only poles in the league that are not yellow. Another one of the most recognizable features at Citi Field is the home run apple, which also has been carried over from Shea Stadium. The apple, located behind the center field wall, pops up any time that a Mets batter hits a home run.
