Venue History
Coors Field is the home ballpark of Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies, which opened in 1995 after the Rockies spent their first two seasons playing at Mile High Stadium. Coors Field is located in downtown Denver, Colorado, in the LoDo neighborhood. During construction of the ballpark, dinosaur fossils were discovered, including a 7-foot-long triceratops skull, which inspired the creation of Dinger, the Rockies triceratops mascot.
One of the ballpark's most notable features is the row of purple seats in the upper deck, which signifies being exactly 5,280 feet (1 mile) above sea level. Due to its elevation, Coors Field has been one of the most hitter friendly ballparks as the ball travels further in the thin air. Studies also found that the dry air in Denver had an effect on baseballs, which lead the team installing a large humidor to store baseballs in a more humid climate, which has resulted in a drop in the average number of home runs that are hit at Coors Field each season.
