Venue History
Globe Life Park in Arlington is the home ballpark for Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers, located in Arlington, Texas. Originally named The Ballpark in Arlington, the stadium opened in 1994. The stadium's design was inspired in part by the classic jewelbox stadiums, such as Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park.
Despite playing in the oppressive Texas heat, the ballpark was built without a retractable roof, citing the cost as the main factor. Globe Life Park had been built several years before retractable roofs become common in areas where weather was a factor. Globe Life Park is known to be one of the most hitter friendly ballparks in the league due to the high temperatures of Texas, the relatively short fences, and the stadium's design which has caused a swirling wind to carry balls.
