Venue History
Named after the franchise's founding owner, Ewing Kauffman, Kauffman Stadium is home to the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball. Opened in 1973, it is the 6th oldest stadium in Major League Baseball and is considered one of the best examples of modernist stadium design in the country.
Kansas City is known as the “City of Fountains,” so Kauffman Stadium's most well-known feature, fittingly, is the fountain and water display behind the right-center field fence. At 322 feet long, it is the largest privately funded fountain in the world. Known as the “Water Spectacular,” the fountains are on display before and after each game, as well as in-between innings.
