Venue History
Marlins Park is the current home of Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins (formerly the Florida Marlins) and is located just west of downtown Miami, Florida. Marlins Park opened in 2012 and was the first stadium designed as a contemporary ballpark after two decades of retro style ballparks were built. The ballpark was designed to be a piece of art reflective of the culture of Miami, with bright colors and a smooth, stylish design.
The stadium includes a retractable roof, which was seen as a necessity to combat the heat, humidty, and rain storms that are common in Miami during the summer, and is also LEED certified as the greenest ballpark in the league. Marlins Park has several unique features, such as the home run feature, which is a 70 foot high moving sculpture located behind the left-center field wall, as well as two aquariums built into each side of the backstop wall behind home plate
