Venue History
Minute Maid Park is the current home of the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball. Opened in 2000 as Enron Field, it replaced the Astrodome which had been the Astros home since 1965. Minute Maid Park is located in downtown Houston, Texas, in an area once known as a railway hub for the southern part of the United States. The ballpark was designed to incorporate Union Station and includes a replica steam locomotive that moves along a railway behind the left field wall to pay homage to the area's history.
Nicknamed “The Juice Box,” as Minute Maid's main product is orange juice, Minute Maid Park is known to be a hitter's ballpark, thanks to the short distance to the left field wall. One of the most unique features of the ballpark is “Tal's Hill,” which is a 90 foot wide hill in the deepest part of center field that the centerfielder will occasionally have to run up to go after a ball, although there are plans to remove the hill and bring in the centerfield fence in the near future.
