Venue History
Nationals Park is a Major League Baseball ballpark located in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, D.C., and is home to the Washington Nationals. The Nationals franchise moved from Montreal, Canada for the 2005 season and played in RFK Stadium while construction on their permanent home was completed. Nationals Park opened in 2008 and includes a grove of Cherry Blossoms behind the left field bleachers. From the upper deck, fans can see the U.S. Capitol building and Washington Monument.
Nationals Park is most known for being the home of the race of the presidents. During each home game, several contestants dress up in costumes that look like one of several former U.S. Presidents and compete in a foot race across the field. The Teddy Roosevelt character went almost seven seasons without winning a single race. The streak finally ended the day after the Nationals clinched their first playoff appearance.
