Venue History
Petco Park is the current home ballpark of Major League Baseball's San Diego Padres and is located in downtown San Diego, California. Petco Park opened in 2004 after the Padres moved from their original home, Qualcomm Stadium. Opening of the ballpark was delayed two years due to legal proceedings, one of which was due to the Western Metal Supply Co. building that was registered as a historical landmark, which prevented its demolistion.
It was agreed that the building would be renovated and included in the design of the ballpark, giving Petco Park one of its most unique features. Along with several small sections of seating built on the building, the left-field foul line is made up of a corner of the building. Petco Park has been one of the most pitcher friendly ballparks in the league, resulting in the team moving in part of the outfield fences to make it more hitter friendly.
