Venue History
Safeco Field is the home ballpark of Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners. The stadium is located in the SoDo district of downtown Seattle, Washington, and opened on July 15, 1999, with the Mariners playing at the Kingdome during the first half of the season while construction was completed on Safeco Field.
Unlike all other retractable roofs in the league, Safeco Field's roof does not make the stadium completely enclosed, acting more like an umbrella over the ballpark. Safeco Field is known to be a pitcher friendly ballpark and has seen two no-hitters and a perfect game. One of the most unique features of the ballpark is the installation of several art displays throughout the park, which include a chandelier of 1,000 baseballl bats and a 9-foot tall bronze baseball glove.
