Venue History

Shea Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium built in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in the borough of Queens, New York. The stadium opened in 1964 as the home of Major Leauge Baseball's New York Mets as well as the National Football League's New York Jets. Shea Stadium also hosted the New York Yankees (MLB) in 1974 and 1975 while Yankee Stadium was beng renovated, as well as hosted the New York Giants (NFL) in 1975 while Giants Stadium was being constructed.

 

Shea Stadium hosted NFL playoff games as well as four World Series. The Jets would leave for Giants Stadium after the 1983 season, and the Mets would leave after the 2008 season to move to their new home, Citi Field. Shea Stadium would be dismantled shorly after.
