Venue History
Turner Field is the home of Major League Baseball's Atlanta Braves. Opened in 1996, Turner Field was called Centennial Olympic Stadium and was the centerpiece of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta Georgia before being converted into the Braves new home for the start of the 1997 season. Turner Field opened near the beginning of the Braves years of dominating the National Leage East division, leading to Turner Field hosting 11 National League Division Series and four National League Championship Series, along with one World Series.
Although relatively new, Turner Field is being replaced by SunTrust Park in 2017 as the home of the Atlanta Braves. Georgia State University has purchased the rights to take over Turner Field and its property after the Braves vacate.
