Venue History
U.S. Cellular Field, originally known as New Comiskey Park, is the home to Major League Baseball's Chicago White Sox. Opened in 1991, U.S. Cellular Field is located in the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, across the street from where the old Comiskey Park stood.
U.S. Cellular Field's design was inspired by the “modern” design of Dodgers Stadium (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Kauffman Stadium (Kansas City Royals). It was the first baseball-only ballpark built since Kauffman stadium opened in 1973, as well as the last stadium built before the “retro” design trend that began the following year with the open of Oriole Park at Camden Yards (Baltimore Orioles). The stadium's most notable feature is the “exploding scoreboard,' reminiscent of the scoreboard installed at Comiskey Park in 1960.
